Turmeric is used primarily in the food and pharmaceutical industry. The ingredients found in Turmeric are used in dyes, food and even for medicinal purposes. Turmeric is said to treat conditions ranging from gingivitis to premenstrual syndrome in women. Additional, cucurmin that is found in turmeric is said to possibly be a treatment for cancer.
Constituents and Characteristics
Turmeric is classified as a rhizome (subterranean plant stem), having an outer appearance similar to that of it's closely related relative, ginger. When sliced, turmeric has a pungent smell, along with a bright orange internal colour.
